This years Art Show is going to be based on <i><a href="http://www.gettingtoknow.com/">"Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists"</a></i> and Illustrators. One of the 2nd grade projects will be based on Vincent VanGogh's, <i>Starry Night</i>. After creating their version of the famous painting in their choice of medium students then created a frame to go with their piece. Using a variety of noodles that seem to mimic the theme, lines and shapes of the <i>Starry Night </i>students tried to create a frame design that would compliment their art work. They glued the noodles to a poster board mat and then the frames were spray painted gold. I don't often use things like noodles in projects with my kids but the wagon wheels, stars and rotini seem to fit really well and after they are painted the frames give the pieces a "museum-like" feel (besides that the kids have a lot of fun working with them).<br />

Who doesn't love Eric Carle! My first graders sure did enjoy creating their "Very Grouchy Ladybugs". We started with the story and a good look at Carle's amazing illustrations. Then the kids took flight making construction paper ladybugs with wings split for flight and a vibrant tissue paper collage for the background. As a finishing touch we added some google eyes for a touch of whimsy.mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-28900131788833826682012-02-04T19:11:00.000-08:002012-02-04T19:44:01.201-08:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQZLxozCtprK8si_gwT5ZDpWptbJkUcomeb66eno4WpbQH7BLVfaEW_j3c28-lewyZC3V_TaLHdR0tieK5pAKWRy2V8iTK2kpBoG2y8zhhnYEiBorZLtCzgXvDFw9Q1buHEdBfE4h7Eian/s1600/DSC00118.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 224px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQZLxozCtprK8si_gwT5ZDpWptbJkUcomeb66eno4WpbQH7BLVfaEW_j3c28-lewyZC3V_TaLHdR0tieK5pAKWRy2V8iTK2kpBoG2y8zhhnYEiBorZLtCzgXvDFw9Q1buHEdBfE4h7Eian/s320/DSC00118.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705491413292070130" /></a><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">Inspired by Picasso's</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;"><i> </i></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold; font-family:arial;font-size:100%;" ><i>"</i></span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;font-size:100%;"><i>Petite Fleurs"</i></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic; font-size: 14px; font-family:'lucida grande';">, </span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'lucida grande';font-size:100%;">my kindergarten students made these pictures</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small; font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; font-family:arial;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;font-size:100%;">using a combination of oil pastel, silky crayon, tempra paint and construction paper. First we talked a bit about Picasso's life and art and looked at examples of his work including "Petite Fleurs". We then practiced drawing some simple flower shapes and talked about what would be a good size for the flowers we would put on the paper for our project. The kids then made about three flowers using oil pastel. Next I demonstrated the use of one of my all time favorite materials, silky crayons, and the kids added several more flowers with these. We added stems, leaves, vines and grass with green tempra. After tracing and cutting out the students arms and hands, they were given an opportunity to trade one with a friend. The project was finished by attaching the hands to the page so that it looks like one hand is picking a flower to give to the other. The "Patterned Cats" that my students have created have won many awards over the years and always cause a great deal of excitement when displayed in the halls of our school. Before beginning the project I tell the kids to go home and look in their rooms for the most interesting shoe bottoms they have and then make sure to wear them to school the next time they have art. When they arrive the next class they are each given a small piece of clay which they form in to a ball, strategically position it on the bottom of their shoe and then gently step on it to create the pattern for their medallion.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHCj5BEzgEkESoK0W4vryiwAWQ80h71TxLBTCnCTZn9mihDjP3cpDr7aZK-4fo7iM4pTt8iAPI5biDqRAdpM4I0AsYRygjiQy7aaJVnXRet8WHu7HvRkUx7aMdMEe-yI_yzr4XVqJVnyuC/s1600-h/DSC01250.jpg"><img style="text-align: left;display: block; Once again time has flown by and it has been far to long since I last posted. Oh well....perhaps an opportunity for a New Year's resolution! :) Going back in time a bit this is probably the best loved Christmas project in my repertoire. It is a favorite of parents and students alike. The key concepts are that of focal point, repetition and variety. Skills learned are working with stencils, use of pastels, color blending and collage techniques. Students begin by creating a stencil in the shape of an evergreen tree. Then use their stencil and pastels in different shades of green to create a forest of trees. I encourage the kids to trade stencils with classmates so that all of their trees are not exactly the same shape or size. Overlapping is also encouraged. Both of these things help make the forests look more realistic. When enough trees have been stenciled a horizon line is added and the sky is colored with pastel to reflect a certain mood or time of day. Color blending is discussed at this point. When students are finished with the pastels they use the inside shape from the stencil and a variety of collage materials to create a decorated tree which is then added to the forest. The end results are quite beautiful. </em><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 139px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424454704621057186" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTaQernuTiXYqPKhiskcEEuKfDHw28-GYOk8VlrlYsyJ2p24Y-u1VwvrYnM55DUg787aRs42jaC7Pe-CbkD5IuJegqtKBMX0NXrn1jvGbawz4lBGIKR72nhd6XAKW2GfRA6EzCyL6vw5lY/s320/Chloe+3C.jpg" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 133px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424454372423137122" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivdx113sgt9y7IZn4WZSyTuemnfFBWAWAXkR-EYK6YAvY3K4aMC2h9OcctBChp8zS3L4bktHZqhB16vpssm3VS-ZeoTqFLesVBfXyQepdHnt2xl2NSRCPEsU15GCr_rL-S3BXKmPY09Arg/s320/Devon+3B.jpg" /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz2voOGO3QNR_NN80mPxbzkhjYmeOKfbLH9WeCGFlh-9_QAhptv2ezMhtxzSGsa1N-qWTcVhz7dMcU4h7gT6EymFbeYrA9EE8wmVyv7F_mvOCeb4kBtVArKI8CMVT-pyaTsuWcEbwfqrfH/s1600-h/Chloe+3C.jpg"></a></div><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz2voOGO3QNR_NN80mPxbzkhjYmeOKfbLH9WeCGFlh-9_QAhptv2ezMhtxzSGsa1N-qWTcVhz7dMcU4h7gT6EymFbeYrA9EE8wmVyv7F_mvOCeb4kBtVArKI8CMVT-pyaTsuWcEbwfqrfH/s1600-h/Chloe+3C.jpg"></a></div><br /><br /><div></div></div>mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-28378180569347812952009-11-12T12:32:00.000-08:002009-11-12T13:03:43.607-08:00Mission 10,000 Rockets<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz67BQNWFWPHhvsk9mFAqHiEPKnUESpbCs4BnbjF99T_FWnZNRzRRSrCVDuBnooLDp8RTSidD7FolHW3J-6jGnRgPTlvaB1tLAMWTC1lpF5RI-XEEBUuHJXssQyL9El2DfGxOxfM29-fmW/s1600-h/Karina+3B.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403324568374654210" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 151px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz67BQNWFWPHhvsk9mFAqHiEPKnUESpbCs4BnbjF99T_FWnZNRzRRSrCVDuBnooLDp8RTSidD7FolHW3J-6jGnRgPTlvaB1tLAMWTC1lpF5RI-XEEBUuHJXssQyL9El2DfGxOxfM29-fmW/s200/Karina+3B.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif3ZUNDHrdxVtzcfbiQsX92eoJ-UKW9BvYmrl5y_X1uyW2uJcN2InJRruLHwpV3hb2btp8XHyA68y03C09pnAZqOgP2-bWXpv9Dwm0NA9Anx0J8-CSFta1nJOvfH6ljTaS29Qw_w0Egkd9/s1600-h/Issac+6-1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403324420952718066" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 126px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif3ZUNDHrdxVtzcfbiQsX92eoJ-UKW9BvYmrl5y_X1uyW2uJcN2InJRruLHwpV3hb2btp8XHyA68y03C09pnAZqOgP2-bWXpv9Dwm0NA9Anx0J8-CSFta1nJOvfH6ljTaS29Qw_w0Egkd9/s200/Issac+6-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>"Every invention starts from a simple drawing on a paper." Students in grades 1,2,3 & 6 have been busy creating drawings of rockets for a program called <a href="http://10000rockets.com/">Mission 10,000 Rockets</a>. Perhaps it is the extreme features and natural distortion of the subject matter that helps. Or that they are having so much fun creating a crazy character that they don't over think the concepts. Whatever the case it really seems to work. We take a look at Picasso and his art and have a discussion on how his style gradually changed before taking on the cubist characteristics. Students then experiment using <a href="http://www.mrpicassohead.com/">Mr. Picasso He</a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj61YD-_YpUTt6-ouI24TGhNqngFSAsm7HhQMlrZggpnhDooRKv1kpEE-GtXxWiycUTpghPfq1rSFOrkAl1I2f2_3o-YzRjva7iLab0d1e2OqtPM5S7FIIn4SHJCaS2z0ZBNhRfftD7P0Oo/s1600-h/Samantha+4-2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400289548587446370" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 128px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj61YD-_YpUTt6-ouI24TGhNqngFSAsm7HhQMlrZggpnhDooRKv1kpEE-GtXxWiycUTpghPfq1rSFOrkAl1I2f2_3o-YzRjva7iLab0d1e2OqtPM5S7FIIn4SHJCaS2z0ZBNhRfftD7P0Oo/s200/Samantha+4-2.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.mrpicassohead.com/">ad</a> a website where students can create portraits in the cubist style. Here's to better time management in the days to come. :)<br /><br />We just finished up a workshop on cornhusk dolls with local artisan and long time friend of the Manawa Middle School Art Department, Judy D. I am so excited to have the kids experience art projects that tie in to the rich cultural heritage of our country and corn husk dolls are an excellant way to do this. The kids are excited to be working with a different art medium and even though the subject was "dolls" boys and girls alike worked with great enthusiasm.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCv8DccmkWL6zvQdPiawcI2utgSvgOhMl5uWdqlkb0IhikIBc1va3ZOZbHDjkfpmy1ldVO_b5W5OEzr24-laHpHW5r70VeuGkqPuoWKvH24nysmBv6HDjAGMkK3VHrDEKS0_9298XHptHz/s1600-h/corn+husk+dolls+1.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCv8DccmkWL6zvQdPiawcI2utgSvgOhMl5uWdqlkb0IhikIBc1va3ZOZbHDjkfpmy1ldVO_b5W5OEzr24-laHpHW5r70VeuGkqPuoWKvH24nysmBv6HDjAGMkK3VHrDEKS0_9298XHptHz/s200/corn+husk+dolls+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400267210098439538" /></a> <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5YumQpSe8BEXFCT-hOQygwEj9LxBKfvmHb1h_hpX0ZOqu07vi1F8BjfNtfjJGXb3oiX8W8bWelYl3QJIdTu_yrLpvD11pjypPQrS_V0pMwkKZpHFS7e19NhlIV15qWEXpx4Oi5Cj-ow4q/s1600-h/corn+husk+dolls2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5YumQpSe8BEXFCT-hOQygwEj9LxBKfvmHb1h_hpX0ZOqu07vi1F8BjfNtfjJGXb3oiX8W8bWelYl3QJIdTu_yrLpvD11pjypPQrS_V0pMwkKZpHFS7e19NhlIV15qWEXpx4Oi5Cj-ow4q/s320/corn+husk+dolls2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400271008236844194" /></a>mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-66125768844166429432009-10-05T19:58:00.000-07:002009-10-05T20:00:37.913-07:00Crayola Doesn't Make A Color For Your Eyes<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EELEjeYzfjM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="never"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EELEjeYzfjM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="295" allowscriptaccess="never"></embed></object>mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-40195748790759694772009-10-03T11:02:00.000-07:002009-10-03T11:46:32.581-07:00Blazing Banyon Trees<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-GWISXDSnVNiyIRCwIBRkWu7QUMJ4D4jmEAytURveqW4r6JirUgXixJJJ7gQpchpFs-vNb6Ta0GSF-NAlzYekjzuZZ0AXYd6QXB6EEl8mpd4oPgDuVkmG4piPxywZl7Q2VrzxeWiQZkA1/s1600-h/100_0918.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388446337465181026" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 134px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-GWISXDSnVNiyIRCwIBRkWu7QUMJ4D4jmEAytURveqW4r6JirUgXixJJJ7gQpchpFs-vNb6Ta0GSF-NAlzYekjzuZZ0AXYd6QXB6EEl8mpd4oPgDuVkmG4piPxywZl7Q2VrzxeWiQZkA1/s200/100_0918.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388441496435413442" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 238px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBLmBkRJPo062WmRnNT37oWh2sd5qeywDnWF1L4ZoOnX_zJQDS97nqQWFUEW-hUNUNXDwE3HPsN0jNMf7LgyAIVMWxoMwAgBHtri-dK-4GuJLzRv3jTYvqccig987wdpT9K2ZvLPxaOKME/s320/DSC00088.JPG" border="0" /><br /><div> Looking for attention grabbing art projects? We use silky crayons to add color to this project, a medium which the kids are always eager to work with.</div></div>mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-12036866054724612422009-09-24T08:44:00.000-07:002009-09-24T09:03:00.736-07:00First grade Line Drawings<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ-QBQy7EYIjtzOj1lc3uryB7Ee1JhaOHcuIcq3NQa5qL7neLeJnL6tTo1vXIbr0PRTQTYIgL4DQnbaojObon6TfEyq4pxKNyTxA3E79R_vOXJL7I4BX167O7z5P_ZfpzPzGXKwMyzW6cL/s1600-h/Hunter+1B.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5385064914452526322" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 234px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ-QBQy7EYIjtzOj1lc3uryB7Ee1JhaOHcuIcq3NQa5qL7neLeJnL6tTo1vXIbr0PRTQTYIgL4DQnbaojObon6TfEyq4pxKNyTxA3E79R_vOXJL7I4BX167O7z5P_ZfpzPzGXKwMyzW6cL/s320/Hunter+1B.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLo4inZT5Ja6xI-on5kNSnMhVVzTZiCO7DjKQ0aEH-vI7apeKvC8VqyYedp3-NI8lIfVWk6ry006B5NQHNAiGQw736CZBiHq2jVZ9-7UYb2XRDpxMYUpsCHvXQ3bp-2c7arhGGhdCPv7jE/s1600-h/Kayla+1B.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5385063224672754402" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 148px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLo4inZT5Ja6xI-on5kNSnMhVVzTZiCO7DjKQ0aEH-vI7apeKvC8VqyYedp3-NI8lIfVWk6ry006B5NQHNAiGQw736CZBiHq2jVZ9-7UYb2XRDpxMYUpsCHvXQ3bp-2c7arhGGhdCPv7jE/s200/Kayla+1B.jpg" border="0" /></a>After discussing the art element of line and using verticle, horizontal, diagonal, curves, spirals and dots as jumping off points my first grade students began working on their first official drawing of the year. We have been talking about lines for may years by now and the kids take the opportunity to show what they know about this important art element. We review line types, the use of repetition to create pattern, the use of variety to create interest and use portrature to tie it all together. Students begin with a U or upside down U to start their face. They then may choose to place hair either on the top of the head or on the face as long as the paper is filled with outrageous hair. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGI8Lq46d69bX9Lw8woerkaZ4_GdnXrdAjSAdmxo0lKjY3xEUMS2v6VwzMYAosgxDZaGNBt3nQ7eJrJXEKIdj30n2TwHoBLwUG9X-ALf86vaaB99aqD7tsnIryMg4QtT_xccHsaOit7Oow/s1600-h/Ellen2+5-2+-+09.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383692603697607058" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 235px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGI8Lq46d69bX9Lw8woerkaZ4_GdnXrdAjSAdmxo0lKjY3xEUMS2v6VwzMYAosgxDZaGNBt3nQ7eJrJXEKIdj30n2TwHoBLwUG9X-ALf86vaaB99aqD7tsnIryMg4QtT_xccHsaOit7Oow/s320/Ellen2+5-2+-+09.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKCmxcXmwTiuvkb7hJlvA82uhs18GZIg0YxMLaqakLCwrOqH436lSGbmq76Wp9sT_I6lqpBZDemQdpVCxri-7bZiWl7EHfZlJSRVUrf4UNv705U9XpHVCkVZ4JgYjj7U5sy_0vqVPTOBSY/s1600-h/Kirsten2+5-2+-+09.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383692443412343554" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 230px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKCmxcXmwTiuvkb7hJlvA82uhs18GZIg0YxMLaqakLCwrOqH436lSGbmq76Wp9sT_I6lqpBZDemQdpVCxri-7bZiWl7EHfZlJSRVUrf4UNv705U9XpHVCkVZ4JgYjj7U5sy_0vqVPTOBSY/s320/Kirsten2+5-2+-+09.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div>mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-15842591443855616872009-09-09T19:07:00.000-07:002009-09-09T19:31:39.535-07:00It's a brand new year at schoolThere is something so wonderful about starting a new school year. Everything has a new glow. Everyone is looking forward to a fresh start. My first day back I had two young gentlemen run up to me, throw there arms around me and state, with grins on their faces, "long time no see". The excitement of the start of a new year is electric<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb3YLaevDQeK1ZDglyckskabGeGpBYF12a9Hc4GDONb2_M4NUr67aTEoKeC9grXbA__W85qGi4FW7we7WNNlAhttMAiNSv76Uv824aeB3JPaUrz0D48Y3oWo64GbJWjHoXtp5RCrBiwyel/s1600-h/school+09+109.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379655297454327442" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb3YLaevDQeK1ZDglyckskabGeGpBYF12a9Hc4GDONb2_M4NUr67aTEoKeC9grXbA__W85qGi4FW7we7WNNlAhttMAiNSv76Uv824aeB3JPaUrz0D48Y3oWo64GbJWjHoXtp5RCrBiwyel/s320/school+09+109.jpg" /></a>. So I say, "Welcome school year 2009/2010". I am looking forward to a year filled with new possibilities. Our Artsonia web gallery is nearly ready for it's first post and my 3rd, 4th & 5th graders are busy creating their first ATC's (Art Trading Cards) and looking forward to an exchange with a school in Monroe, North Carolina. I am also looking forward to trying out some new projects that I have found thanks to my friends at <a href="http://arted20.ning.com/">art ed 2.0</a>. Hopefully I will be able to maintain this new enthusiasm long after my art room floors have lost their shine.mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-1022227309807635382009-08-27T12:39:00.000-07:002009-09-20T16:39:36.698-07:00Introducing ArtsoniaAs we begin a new school year look for student art work to begin appearing on the online gallery <a href="http://www.artsonia.com/">Artsonia</a>. Students in grades 3-6 have just had pieces posted to the gallery and others will soon follow. Want to know more about <a href="http://www.artsonia.com/">Artsonia</a>? Check out the great video by Tricia Fuglestad and her students at Dreyden Elementary found in the bottom left hand corner of the <a href="http://www.artsonia.com/">Artsonia</a> home page.mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648480872365468475.post-71106306935148496892009-07-26T19:29:00.000-07:002009-07-26T19:34:28.374-07:00Second grade question of the weekWhat is your favorite color? We discussed illustrations as well as the use of patterning and cool colors as we began. Students began by drawing their fish using basic shapes to form the body, fins and tail. Then they were asked to add a face and to fill the body with scales using a repeating curved line that was layered row on row. We talked about where fish live and what types of things might be seen in their habitats. The kids were excited to start their backgrounds and were asked to include a couple pieces of seaweed along with anything else that they thought would fit the scene. In this project the scales of the fish were painted with cool colors of watercolor. The seaweed leaves were also done in watercolor and the background was colored with crayon. The last step of the project was for Rainbow Fish (teacher example) to share one of it's glittering scales with each of the other fish. The kids were excited to find just the right spot to "tuck in" their special scale to complete the project.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6TgAACZEiGDIPo1XrMh8VMMqZrOxzpmq_qWsCXklGVIda9DeJJ2BUhuyGAfXUAutvGG5LLnPyB8CUgObgalzIyw6q7YhdWyd4mNn_T3e7KMjFBnForOiwiCve9LtdFpQwlpKPnsQDjEZH/s1600-h/100_1449.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362905920793405778" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6TgAACZEiGDIPo1XrMh8VMMqZrOxzpmq_qWsCXklGVIda9DeJJ2BUhuyGAfXUAutvGG5LLnPyB8CUgObgalzIyw6q7YhdWyd4mNn_T3e7KMjFBnForOiwiCve9LtdFpQwlpKPnsQDjEZH/s320/100_1449.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPkDpARpD-7UqajYMcEIO-zFI5eynSaHTAt3-hWd3mWbANG2aXhFLomtYLjVvXYF8BbjD5Uo8hJjSHvcyAs0fHwjaXnWX5pz-BgkaTS6eFUDEFkn9JjVvLRaE2SsrFAGu0b9dr4_TRYgmS/s1600-h/100_1450.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362905811246188610" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPkDpARpD-7UqajYMcEIO-zFI5eynSaHTAt3-hWd3mWbANG2aXhFLomtYLjVvXYF8BbjD5Uo8hJjSHvcyAs0fHwjaXnWX5pz-BgkaTS6eFUDEFkn9JjVvLRaE2SsrFAGu0b9dr4_TRYgmS/s320/100_1450.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6nDs4q5gggABGrS9Mun87S7yWc1AKqVqonD-w9GnWd1D7axoBfGh1nQN-ABMKKmYfy47esB7THNcz78MmCl1NZslSdMQ1JbiLlCe95miN0IggnluG2vb0MiB92CUOsE-2jB71EMPJ7d8X/s1600-h/100_1451.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362905673324466242" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6nDs4q5gggABGrS9Mun87S7yWc1AKqVqonD-w9GnWd1D7axoBfGh1nQN-ABMKKmYfy47esB7THNcz78MmCl1NZslSdMQ1JbiLlCe95miN0IggnluG2vb0MiB92CUOsE-2jB71EMPJ7d8X/s320/100_1451.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>mcwilsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02432891287671458753noreply@blogger.com1
